 RFID: Radio Frequency Information devices
These are the latest microchips product that are being sampled by big multinationals in the product tagging. The device is stuck to a box or container and the chip operates like a mini-microprocessor. The company's computers can interact with the device wherever it is. Hence it will be useful in tracking goods from the manufacturing plant to the sales department. What does this mean? Better theft and counterfeit tracking.

Africa produces its own Computer products

Dr. Jason Githeko of Egerton University in Kenya, produces the first ever Swahili Spellcheck.  Wonderful news because, it is not only an Open Source Technology but also it will help standardise written Swahili. Hmmm. And guess what? He volunteered the idea to Microsoft in the early 90's and they snobed him. As usual, Microsoft picked on the idea and just when Jason released his product, Microsoft released its own Swahili dictionary. Is that competition?

A Ghanian develops the first African Microprocessor. Called it Nehemiah. Certainly not that of Bible but of the digital world.

And there is something called  Africa Mail in this world.  A search engine with email services.  From a company by Kenyan entrepreneur.

 Writers Cabin

The blackboard message read:

" No more strangers feeding our regiments.  We are not a mirage. We are the Middle Continent people. Endowed with untold wealth.  We have to wake up.  If you disagree with us, let us know.  Is your thank you to this Continent spreading Aids, maiming and killing other people; stealing oil and diamonds?

Dedicated to the boys and men from the Middle Continent with tears for the women and children who have continuously suffered through their brutality.

Take this free copy, read, think and act.  I have been called and have to go.

Yours truelly, Mumo".

An excerpt adopted with permission from an article Written by Kena WW 2003

Resources Pulling

Harambee means come together.

It used to be the Kenyan Motto for self-help development after independence.  Through it over 80% of Kenyan schools were built as a community contribution.  It can still work elsewhere if well monitored

In 2007-8, Kenyans pulled their energies to destroy a lot of this.  Was this the work of crack heads or a society gone berserk?  Politically drunk, morally deficient and strategically destructive.  The poor becomes poorer.   Did the politicians tell you that?

Language

Heard about Swahili? Or another one called  Papiamento?
Why is Swahili an important Language?
Would you like to visit the home of the Lion King and Mt Kilimanjaro?

Swahili is one of the fastest growing languages in Africa. It is a unifying factor in countries with so many different ethnic groups.  It is also endowed with a lot of positive social values and practices. Understanding a language like Swahili widens your scope of cultural understanding which is important in the world we live in today.

You will add a whole new world of entertainment when you understand the language because this is the most used language in East and parts of Central Africa.  You will be able to feel and see the African influence in the Latin American music and culture. It will also open your understanding of the most Middle continent, Africa.

And who knows, Swahili has relatives beyond Africa. Most of the Southern Pacific Islands have lots of tribes with names and words very similar to East African Bantus. You will see a group called Warûngû tribes in Western Australia. Warûngû is a name to be found also in East Africa.

And among the Native Americans, Wachuka is a man's name. As a matter of fact, there is a place called Fort Wachuka in Arizona. Once a upon time something happened that dispersed people but they kept their identities. Swahili is a derivative language from the human self-dispersal and integration. There is alot of beauty in the language. It has never been an imposed language per se but rather a language of convenience especially for those many who never had a chance of learning the colonial languages. If you want to know more, contact the website builder who is a hobbyist Swahili coach through the global email by clicking on the Views button.

The Subject header should be : Swahili.

In Real Demand Issues

Have you been able to locate your copy of late?
Check it out and you will see what is hot this season.
this quarter:  Issues that matter: Techology, Politics and Survival kit.

Does Africa need China in the 21st Century, if for each modern century there has been tested inter-continental exploitative relationships?  A dependancy  initiation syndrome?

Why do human beings repeatedly bind themselves to damaging relationships?

Coming next

Open Source Technology is for us all.  Products are created by teams of volunteers. If you are good in any programming or scripting language, check on the internet how you can contribute to the Open Source technology. We have regional and global groups.

Remember the Kikuyu  saying, "Piece by piece they meet in the stomach."  And finally a single product.

Current Issues on the Political front? Unanswered Questions.

We are committed to the restoration of dignity of the maginalized people of Sudan. Turning our eyes and ears from their cry is a denial of our conscience.

When shall Africans say enough is enough to Bashir?

Why is diplomacy not working?

Is Bashir of Sudan done with the Genocide? Of course he has already perfected in overseeing to the mass killing the black Southern Sudanese and in Darfur.

What will the 400 Million-People European Union mean to the world?  New Era started on May 1 2004.

Is Quadaffi the new darling in the world of political divide?

Of course not.

..but he is  a darling to many who admire not only his handsomeness but also he is the only world leader who trusts women as his full time body guards.

Can you be comfortable with not knowing where your citizens are?  May be it is time nations checked out where their refugees are.

Who is not looking forward to a nation once called Somalia coming back?

Does this mean that to be a Somali is to hate an organized society?

Figure it yourself.  A person who was born in 1990 when chaos started is now a fighter.  What other life has such a person seen in Somalia?

Is Somalia so bad that the only interesting thing is fighting? Somali President has thrown hands in the air.  He came to power with an agenda which he has not been able to fulfill.  We wish many others would surrender instead of failing public institutions.

Time to tell those people still fascinated with being in IT time is running out.  What would you say to them? "Create some service and goods or the boat is sinking?"

The last quarter issue is also a good reading material.

The number of Hybrid Professionals on the rise?
Is specialization getting outdated?
Information Technology Views

Many are giving up on the IT industry. No other industry has come up so quickly, has been embraced by so many and has been so saturated within less than a decade like IT.
So what next?

It is just getting itself adopted into all sectors of life.  As a career, it is only the die hards that are going to hold onto it.  Anybody trying to take it up today as a career might as well gear themselves for a very stiff competition if not total frustration.

To cope with competition, many IT funs should consider doing something else that can go together with IT. Many have realized this and they are combining other disciplines with computer courses. Definitely a good gamble.
IT is like a driving license, you use it to qualify yourself to do other things that need IT.

Technologies that are still popular need certifications.  If no certification on your resume, many uninformed people do not care how much IT skills and experience you have. Your resume belongs to the trash bin.  A very ridiculous way of screening Technical professionals because if you check out with some of the best IT die hards, they spite certified colleagues because they hardly deliver in IT real life. Exceptions do not miss of course.

Which are some of those certifications?
Sun Java 2, Oracle(DBA and other lines), Linux administrator, Cisco, Network Security and Management Various Microsoft Product lines.

Do not forget Project Management Institute certificates.  Make a visit PMI

It is adviseable to seek career advice before you land yourself into an assortment of technologies that may not really market you.  These certification preparations need some monetary investment, so plan yourself well.
Remember also, a Bachelor's degree is no longer a minimum requirement today.  The minimal is way up towards a graduate certificate or a masters.

It now common knowledge that a Bachelors degree is not a specialization but just knowledge acquisition or pumping.  Plan yourself ahead in a competitive market.

Some IT Titles to look for today?

1) Database Administrator(DBA)

2) Network Security Adminstrator

3) Developer(Oracle products, DB, PeopleSoft, MYSQL, SQL,  Java, E-Commerce)

5) Web Technologies:

  • Java developer and Architect
  • Web connectivity Technologies(CGI, Perl, PHP, Visual Basic scripts, ASP.Net etc.)  These days you can even branch out into a full business through the Scripting Languages.

6) Operating Systems Specialists:

  • Sytem Administrators
Sun Unix Administrator, Linux Administrator, Windows(2000,XP and future releases).

Shell and Kernel programmers in Unix brands is a hot area too.

7) Wireless Technologies Specialists:

  • Programmers and hardware technologists

8) Hardware installation and management professionals.
Such are the Network Engineers and Maintenance.

Business initiatives will always be welcome. Try your luck.

Remember our summary views in the last quarter of the "In Demand Magazine"

we expressed views on Sudan? If not check the views at the bottom of this page

We now have good news, the Sudanese Government signed a power-sharing accord with the Southern Sudanese Liberation group. Congratulations peacemakers. We need this for the most tormented people in Africa. The Southern Sudanese.  How about Darfur?

What?
Previous Topics in the last Quarter issue

(1) New Economic models are needed because we are exhausted with the Economic experiments that have outlived the world today.

(2) Somebody have to tell Bashir he has done enough for Sudan. A people's determination will win. And nobody should be forced into any religion or affiliation. Period! Sympathy without action is no longer enough for the non-Arabic Sudanese. Can somebody see this? You say it is not your business and it is. Some of your tax and charity money goes there with or without your consent.

(3) Inevitably, we continue to seek sobriety in some of the African continent. This demand is as high as ever. Not lunatics on the run! Tell Taylor, Al Bashir, and the Great Lakes leaders that.

(4) Global Renaissance of a kind somewhere. We are stiffled with uncertainties.
